This is actually a scheduled post. If you are reading this post on the first 2 days of the Chinese New Year, you are probably too bored.Also for the benefit of visitors to the country, you may realized that the city of Kuala Lumpur might be a tad too quite. This is due to the Malaysian “balik kampung” (translated to back to hometown) phenomena during major festivals.
Well fear not! Being a KLite that have no kampung to go back too, i kind of like come out with this unauthorized guide to Top 10 things to do in Kuala Lumpur during Chinese NEw Year!

This is one of the favorite pastime among the chinese during the chinese new year. Many “hor sui pien” (translation movies for celebrating the new year) is released and shown during this period. This year some of the must see will be Red Cliff 2, the most expensive Asian financed film to date starring Hong Kong Superstar Toby Leong as Zhou Yu and Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhuge Liang. Based on the Historical records of “the Romance of Three Kingdom”, it is directed by Hollywood acclaimed action director John Woo. Watch Red Cliff 2 Trailer here.
For a lighter fare, there is ALL’S WELL, END’S WELL 2009 by director Raymond Wong. Other notable current on show movies include Malaysia & Singpore joint production – The Wedding Game, The Bride Wars, Underworld-Rise of the Lycans & Bedtime Stories starring one of my fabourite comedian of all time -Adam Sandler.

Hey this is the Malaysian tradition. During this time, all Chinese family are extra hospitable. You will also be showered with loads of good food + even an ang pau (red packet containing money given by the married to the not yet married for blessings). No invitation needed. Oh, you can also indulge in the favourite pastime of Chinese families in Malaysia-“hoi toi” (open table or g*mbling*!!!) hehehe
Hey, dont forget to mark your calendar for Chinese New Year 2009 National Open house to be held on February 7 at the Pavillion. To be launched by our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, some 50,000 visitors are expected!

Gong Xi Fa Chai ! Great tips Kid, although I wish yee sang was available outside Malaysia. Apparently this isn’t a mainland chinese tradition as many chinese restaurants in france looked at me rather bizarrely!
