KIDCHAN’s Guide to Langkawi

Dear All,

I bet you- 9.5 times out of 10 when you want to read about traveling in Langkawi the description will be something like:

Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, 30km off the mainland coast of northwestern Peninsular Malaysia. The islands are a part of Malaysia‘s Kedah state, but are adjacent to the Thai border. By far the largest of the islands is the eponymous Pulau Langkawi (Langkawi Island) with a population of some 45,000, the only other inhabited island being nearby Pulau Tuba” (Source: WIKITRAVEL)

Firstly i know that the above description is:

1) Very accurate and
2) Very Tourism Malaysia.

The fact is that most of us just want to get hold of where to eat, sleep & party info. So after countless our trips over the past year and this photographing Weddings in Langkawi I now self proclaimed to be the Ambassador of Langkawi. Before i go on- I regret this will be a rather photoless post, but i will update it as and when.

So, here is some of my favourites hang out in Langkawi:

FOOD in Langkawi

Breakfast in Langkawi:

Four Seasons Langkawi
Morning Buffet (Very High End) but worth a try at least once in a lifetime. The amazing spread includes turkey ham, veal sausages and lots of FRESH stuff. The amazing view at SERAI is out of this world. If you have the luxury of time, i bet you will eat till lunch time:)

The Loaf Langkawi
Located at the Perdana Quay, Telaga Harbour Park, this bakery is owned by our beloved Former Prime Minister Tun. Dr Mahathir. The American breakfast is very generous in helping or you may want to order what reportedly to be Tun M's favourites breakfast a fragrant mutton curry.

Lunch in Langkawi:

Mare Blu Italian Ristorante
Also located at the Perdana Quay, this restaurant serves rather authentic Italian fare. Team KIDCHAN often ends up here for lunch when we arrived in Langkawi. At times, it may seem to be the only open restaurant within the vicinity. My favourites is the seafood pizza. Dinner is also recommended, has very good view of sunset and overlooking a quay.

Siti Fatimah restaurant( Hospital Area)
is a MUST! It serves a GREAAATTT variety of malay food, buffett style

Dinner:in Langkawi

Orked Ria
Located at Pantai Cenang, this chinese restaurant has CLEAN environment and great ambience. Foods is decent, but the BEER is cheap. I went with two friends, and have 5 dishes, friend noodles, 6 cans of Beer Chang + 3 Kahlua icecream and the bill still came up under RM100. We DID NOT order prawns or Crabs though:)

MataHari
Also at Pantai Cenang, this Balinese style restaurant have quite amazing grill fish.

Sight Seeing in Langkawi

Galeria Perdana
The gallery houses more then 2,500 gifts from world leaders to Tun Dr. Mahathir. A real eye opening. The gallery itself is quite a sight.

Ibrahim Hussein Museum & Cultural Foundation
An impressive gallery that houses amazing works of Malaysia‘s foremost artist & fellow “100 People You Must Know In Asia” -Datuk Ibrahim Hussein

PARTY In Langkawi!

One of the biggest complains, as compared to other popular islands like Bali and Phuket is the nightlife OR rather lack of it. However, now Langkawi has hope with a few really good outlets.

Retro Bar
My favourite in Langkawi With the introduction of the Retro Bar in Pantai Cenang. Good mixed, international crowd.

RHU bar
Resident bar of the Four Seasons Langkawi. PLEASE Call Event Manager to check if open to public. Closed to public when there is a function.Crowds are not encourage. Be warned:)
