Ask Kid Chan - Digital or Film for beginner?
Dear Kid Chan,
My name is Diane and I am from the USA. After returning from a trip to SEA, I am to pick up photography. Do you recommend a manual or digital camera?
Diane, USA
Dear Diane,
From the information that are provided, I must admit it is slightly too general for me to answer your question, but I will try.
Firstly, we should address the fact that you are pursuing photography for leisure or livelihood? If it is for livelihood, I think most Pro will agree that you should start with a mechanical camera. You not only need to know how to compose good pictures, but also how to handle your camera in case of an emergency.
We should also address the cost factor. While the cost of both entry level machine are almost the same, Digital camera will save you a lot of cost in terms of prints, processing and film. Should if you are at the trigger happy stage, it might be prudent for you to start with Digital.
Thank you.
